About the Books Photos & Excerpts Appearances About the Author

Gen. Edwin Sumner, USA

He was the senior man in the whole damned army but the papers had crucified him after Antietam.  “Cautious” they called him.  Cautious – of all things!  He fumed at the very thought of it.  That damned New York Tribune ought to be burnt to the ground with Horace Greeley in it!  The papers had no idea how many Rebels had been hiding in those damned woods and Sumner knew it first damned hand.  He had marched an entire division right into the heart of ‘em and lost over 3,000 men in fifteen minutes!  Cautious my ass.
