Hooker
simply stood there for a time and stared at Burnside with a look of
undisguised contempt. Finally, in a slightly calmer tone, he said, They
have a name for this at West Point. You remember it, dont you Ambrose?
Its called reinforcing failure, and its the greatest sin a commander
can commit.
Another
tense moment passed. You have your orders, General Hooker.
Hooker
shook his head sadly, patronizingly, just to restate his scorn, and,
again without a salute, he stormed out of the room even angrier than
when he came in.
